December 2, 2005. I just finished revising REN-DATE.EXE, a DOS (it works in all versions of Windows) program for renaming a file to the current date and time (MMDDHHMM). This is useful for log files whose names aren't incremented. REN-DATE.ZIP and other programs I have written are available here for Download.

November 16, 2005. I just finished revising TODAY.EXE, a DOS (it works in all versions of Windows) program for displaying the current date and time (and a user comment-useful for log files). TODAY.ZIP and other programs I have written are available here for Download.

February 24, 2002. I had written a game masters aid for Deadlands: The Weird West. The group I was developing this for had scheduling problems, so we never got to beta test the final adjustments I had made to the program at our last gaming session. However, I fixed all the problems we had discovered in it. There may some features an active campaign would like to see, that I haven't been able to put in. If there is anything you would like this program to do, that it doesn't already, just let me know. It is posted on this this web site

January 17, 2002. I just finished a number of changes to my UUCP Spam Filter. It now has increased functionality, and increased intelligence for filtering out spam. It is posted on this this web site

October 28, 2001. I just finished writing a UUCP Spam Filter. It is posted on this this web site

October 15, 2001. I just finished writing an text to html converter for lists of e-mail addresses. It is posted on this this web site

March 12, 2001. I am adding the Google search the web/search my site feature to my Tripod site (and hopefully the other sites as they get indexed).

Google
Search WWW Search eqcitybbs.tripod.com

September 28, 2000 New QuickBasic software for Wildcat v4.x BBSs (or any one with a UUCP account). I just wrote MIME2UU, which is a MIME to UU attachment converter. It is now available for download from this web site.

October 22, 1999. The Earthquake City BBS web site hit the big time! And I didn't even know it.

Tripod stats showed that this web site had more than 4,000 unique visitors last month (September 1999). Because of that, Tripod has increased my web space from 11mb to 50mb.

And now a brief comment about the search engine available on this site.

PicoSearch indexes this site whenever I request it (normally about once per month). Therefore you won't be able to find the newest additions to this site using it. However, it displays the results much nicer. Not only does it show you what page it found the item on, it also displays the surrounding context. And, you can click on the link to get there.

May 6 1999. Earthquake City BBS is now offering custom CDs of files from the BBS (hard drive or shareware CDs).

We currently have 1.5gigs of files on the BBS hard drive, and about 20 CDs of shareware (7 online at all times). Many files on the BBS have been downloaded from the internet, and are not available on any shareware CDs. (Supplied by our crack[ed] team of web surfers.)

Just let me know which directories you are interested in getting on your CD. There is a maximum of 650mb per CD.

There is NO addition shipping charge for multiple CDs.

Subscribers send checks for $13.00 (+ $10.00 for each additional CD) to:
Non-subscribers send checks for $23.00 (+ $20.00 for each additional CD) to:
To subscribe, send checks for $10.00 for 12 months to:

November 2, 1998. New wcCODE software for Wildcat v4.x BBSs. After extensive beta testing, I am releasing wcFileGate, which is a pre-processor/auto-responder for incoming and outgoing e-mail and files via a UUCP account and Wildcat v4.x BBS. It is now available for download from this web site.

September 19, 1998. I added a web site map link to the top of each of the pages for Earthquake City BBS.

September 5, 1998. New wcCODE software for Wildcat v4.x BBSs. I just wrote an Offline Individual Message Poster, which allows a sysop to post a message to any one individual, in any one conference, with or without a file attached to the message. It is now available for download from this web site.

I also updated a couple of the other programs that I have written.

September 5, 1998. To add a bit more consistency between pages, I have added a What's New to this page so that changes to this page can be highlighted.

INTRO
[Top (page index)] [Up] [Down] [Bottom (site index)]

One of the typical features of a BBS is the file areas. Earthquake City BBS has a number of different file areas on both hard and CD-Rom drives. When files are uploaded to the BBS, the FILE_ID.DIZ is imported into the file area database to allow for key word searchs.

The hard drive is the area where people are free to upload the shareware/freeware programs that they have found that they like, and recommend to other people. New areas are added as the need arises.

The 7 CD-Rom drives allow us to have up to 4.5gigs of additional files available for download. As I receive more shareware CDs, I place them into rotation as requested.

And since this is my web page, I decided to add a section to this site to highlight the programs that I wrote. So far, these are all to aid in the day to day functioning of the BBS.

Here is a non-BBS/UUCP program. I occasionally game, and one group of people I was gaming with, were playing Deadlands: The Weird West. While everyone enjoyed the game, they all wished there was an easier way for the game master to keep track of all the information to smoothly/quickly manage combat.

While that group no longer has the time for that game, I am willing to continue developing my program, if people are willing to use this program and supply me with suggestions for how to improve it.

weird10.zip combat.EXE v1.00 A Deadlands: The Weird West Marshal's (game master) aid.
Before combat: it allows you to create a list of PCs and non-PCs, along with their combat related EDGES, weapons, armor, ... as well as change any of the PC or NPC related information.
During combat: displays top 20 cards of the PCs and NPCs, allows you to play the cards in any order you want, caclulates combat damage, ....
Written in PowerBasic (DOS). Last revised 11/23/2000.

I only recently (1998) started writing software that may be of interest to a wider audience. These are some programs I use on/with my 4 line Wildcat! v4.20 BBS. The wcCode are Wildcat specific (they only run on Wildcat! v4.x), and others are more generic (QuickBasic and PowerBasic) and should run on any DOS system.

ifdrive1.zip ifdrive.EXE v1.00 A simple command line utility which test any / all drive letters if ready for use, and writes the results into the environment.
Written in Builder (DOS compiled batch language) Last revised 02/08/2007.

ren-d10.zip ren-date.EXE v1.00 A simple command line utility which renames a file of your choosing to the current date and time (MMDDHHMM).
This is useful for log files which don't increment themselves.
Written in PowerBasic (DOS) Last revised 12/02/2005.

mime2u10.zip mime2uu.EXE v1.00 A MIME to UU converter (that needs/uses a couple of other shareware programs UNIX-2-DOS converter and MIME-2-UU converter).
MIME2UU reads incoming messages from a UUCP account, and converts the mime attachments into UU attachments. Designed and tested with Wildcat v4.20 and UUCICO 4.11wc, but is should be able to work with any UUCP account, and any message processing software.
Written in QuickBasic (DOS) Last revised 09/28/2000.

spam2h13.zip spam2html.EXE v1.30 This DOS program reads a text file "spam.cfg", which has a single e-mail address on each line, and creates a web page full of e-mail links. External configuration file for show or hide e-mail addresses, decide how many e-mail addresses per page, test for incomplete addresses.
Written in PowerBasic (DOS). Last revised 11/09/2002.

today11.zip today.EXE v1.10 A simple command line utility which displays the current date and time with your choice of four different formats.
Output can easily be redirected to a log file for display at a later time.
Written in Builder (DOS compiled batch language) Last revised 11/24/2005.

uucpck20.zip uucpCheck.EXE v2.00 A UUCICO log reader that also writes a results file. Tested with Wildcat v4.x and UUCICO 4.11wc.
This program reads the UUCICO file created during the UUCP mail run. It then creates a file letting you know the results of the last call to your ISP for UUCP mail, so you can take the appropriate action(s). It displays an on screen clock so you can see that it is working.
Written in Builder (DOS compiled batch language) Last revised 09/23/2000.

uucpsf11.zip uucpSpamFilter.EXE v1.10 uucpSpamFilter reads all incoming messages, and accepts or rejects messages based on who it is address to. If any message gets rejected, any new messages from that sender also get rejected. It also creates the *.X file if needed, or deletes it if there isn't a *.D file. Now has more agressive testing option as well. Written in PowerBasic (DOS). Last revised 01/31/2002.

wcdr10.zip wcDoorRun.WCX v1.00 A Door Runner for Wildcat v4.x BBSs.
External configuration file allows you to enter starting door # and ending door #. Run any door just by entering the # of the DOOR###.BAT.
Written in wcCODE (Wildcat v4.x scripting language) Last revised as of 11/19/1997.

wcfg12.zip wcFileGate.WCX v1.20g FileGate for Wildcat v4.x BBSs.
FileGate reads the UUCP files as they come from your ISP, and before wcGate processes them. External configuration allows you to enter the various directories used for processing different kinds of files. FileGate will process incoming and outgoing file requests, outgoing file requests (turn on or off in config file), wcMail QWK/REP, wcGate QWK/REP, help, info. Extensive logging and confirmation messages.
Written in wcCODE (Wildcat v4.x scripting language) Last revised as of 09/04/2000.

wcin10.zip wcInternetName.WCX v1.02 wcInternetName Display program for Wildcat v4.x BBSs.
Allows users to display their *EXACT* internet email name.
External configuration file allows you to enter (for the display): BBS Name, Sysop Name, Internet E-Mail conference, your Domain Name and a bulletin # for further information if the user doesn't have a valid E-Mail name.
Written in wcCODE (Wildcat v4.x scripting language) Last revised as of 09/05/1998.

wcoimp11.zip wcOfflineIndividualMessagePoster.WCX v1.11 wcOfflineIndividualMessagePoster for Wildcat v4.x BBSs.
While offline, a sysop can post a message to any one individual, in any one conference, with or without a file attached to the message.
External configuration allows you to enter: who from, who to, subject, message text, attachment name + location and conference number.
This allows you to automate posting a message as part of your regular system events or via a batch file.
Written in wcCODE (Wildcat v4.x scripting language) Last revised as of 10/18/1998.
